COACHING

Coaching is a professional helping relationship, focused on the goals of the coachee. Coaching is a useful way of developing people's skills and abilities, and of boosting performance. It can also help deal with issues and challenges before they become major problems.

Coaching is a process that aims to improve performance and focuses on the ‘here and now’ rather than on the distant past or future. While there are many different models of coaching, here we are not considering the ‘coach as expert’ but, instead, the coach as a facilitator of learning.

There is a huge difference between teaching someone and helping them to learn. In coaching, fundamentally, the coach is helping the individual to improve their own performance: in other words, helping them to learn.

Coaching is a process of guiding and supporting an individual or a group to achieve their goals and improve their performance. It involves a collaborative relationship between the coach and the client, where the coach helps the client identify their strengths and weaknesses, set achievable goals, and develop strategies to overcome obstacles and achieve success.

Coaching is effective for several reasons. Firstly, it provides individuals with personalized attention and support, which helps them to identify their unique strengths and weaknesses. This personalized attention allows coaches to provide targeted feedback and guidance that is specific to the individual's needs, which can help them to make significant improvements in their performance.

Secondly, coaching helps individuals to develop self-awareness and self-reflection skills. By working with a coach, individuals can learn to identify their own blind spots and biases, which can help them to make more informed decisions and improve their overall performance.

Finally, coaching provides individuals with accountability and motivation. By setting clear goals and regularly checking in on progress, coaches can help individuals stay focused and motivated towards achieving their objectives.

As Bill Gates said:

Everyone needs a coach. It doesn’t matter whether you’re a basketball player, a tennis player, a gymnast or a bridge player. We all need people who will give us feedback. That’s how we improve.

Just like athletes, leaders are under pressure to perform every workday. And just like with athletes, coaching is the best way to ensure that leaders can perform at a high level.

Overall, coaching is an essential tool for anyone participating in an Erasmus+ project. It provides participants with the guidance, support, and self-awareness they need to succeed in their personal and professional lives.

The Aim of the project is: To raise the quality of youth work and youth projects by fostering in coaching for self improvement and innovation among youth workers and young leaders.
