What is the project about?

The COVID 19 crisis has had a major negative impact on the living habits, health and responsibilities of EU citizens and the world at large. Almost all countries in the world declared a pandemic and closed a number of institutions and transformed the work from HOME. The Internet was the main occupation of the people but also a platform for socialization and maintaining contact WITHOUT PHYSICAL PRESENCE. This was a great challenge but also a problem for the promotion of a large number of free available information that had a huge impact on the users. Users were confronted with a number of fake news and propaganda that negatively affected the habits of users but also caused great stress during the isolation and limited opportunities for socialization. Youth workers and the non-governmental sector have also faced problematic working conditions and a wealth of fake information on the Internet that has hampered their functioning and survival. The rapid use of the Internet and the organization of webinars has shown that young workers need further education and training in the field of IT technology -the sector of managing and dealing with fake news and information - especially on social networks for communication and collaboration.

Objectives

-          Training of participants on how to deal with online fake news and the negative online information

-          Promotion of EU and world practices in the fight against negative influences online

-          Social promotion of youth workers with fewer opportunities who are a target of online discrimination

-          Creating methods for raising public awareness and rational safe use of online data, rational use of the Internet and social media

-          Creating a plan for organizations to promote themselves as centres for combating discrimination online, hate speech online

THE HOST CITY – SANT`ElENA – CAGLIARI

Quartu Sant'Elena (Italian: [ˈkwartu sanˈtɛːlena]; Sardinian: Cuartu Sant'Aleni; ['kwartɔ sant:ɛleni]), located four miles East from Cagliari on the ancient Roman road, is a city and comune in the Metropolitan City of Cagliari, Sardinia, Italy. It is the third largest city of Sardinia with a population of 71,216 as of 2015. The city's name comes from its distance to Cagliari (Quartum miles, Latin for “four miles”), and from the passage there of St. Helena, mother of Emperor Constantine.

The first traces of human presence in Quartu are from the Prenuragic, Nuragic and Phoenician periods, as attested by findings in Cepola, Geremeas, Is Mortorius and Separassiu localities. Roman findings were found near Sant’Andrea villa, a graveyard at S. Martino and a few tombs at Simbirizzi.

In the 11th century AD Sardinia was divided into four Giudicati: Quartu, which included fourteen villas, belonging to the Giudicato of Cagliari. In 1066 Quartu was given to Cagliari's archbishop and then went back to Judge Torchitorio II of Cagliari. During the Aragonese rule, Quartu suffered from famines, plague, malaria and continuous raids from Saracen pirates, following the general path of decay of the whole of Sardinia.

In 1793 the soldiers of a French fleet landed on the coast of Quartu, with the intention of conquering the entire island; the people of the city, led by Antonio Pisanu, attacked the French and repelled them after a bloody battle.

The feudalism started by the Aragonese, led since 1436 by Giovanni de Sena, viscount of Sanluri and baron of Quatru Saint'Elena, ended in 1836 under the baron Pes di Villamarina. In 1956 Quartu Sant’Elena was upgraded to the status of “city” by the President of Italy Giovanni Gronchi.
